Welcome to Art
Overview
At Troy Middle School, Art is one of three Exploratory options offered to 7th grade students during the school year. The length of the course is 12 weeks or one trimester. During this time, students are exposed to as many Art medias and methods of creation as possible. Students are expected to bring their device to class everyday. All projects are completed within the classroom as students progress through units at their own pace. Students will develop and improve the following skill sets:

Communication skills:
Develop a visual vocabulary:
Improve and develop fine motor skills and abilities:
Students will be assessed using both Formative (30%) and Summative (70%) assessments strategies. Daily checks for understanding will be conducted with students to make sure they are on track and progressing through the assignments appropriately. Grades will be entered daily, reflecting student work completion. If a student needs more time on an assignment, they may have it but must communicate this with the teacher directly. Work will be submitted using Google Classroom as well as Artsonia.

- students will gain confidence in their own ideas
Communication skills:
- students will learn how to use imagery to convey meaning
- students will use written reflections to review various art processes and procedures
- students will participate in independent and group critique to identify areas of success and/or needed improvement as it relates to their artwork
Develop a visual vocabulary:
- students will identify and define the Elements of Art & Principals of Design
- students will identify, define, and create various genres of artwork within the classroom
Improve and develop fine motor skills and abilities:
- students will develop and strengthen their hand-eye coordination
- students will fine-tune specific techniques demonstrated and used within the classroom setting
