Getting to know...
Jae Yong Kim
Each week students will learn about a new featured contemporary artist. This week, our first featured artist is Jae Yong Kim. This contemporary ceramic artist is best know for his delicious donut series! Get to know him a little more by completing the listed daily assignments below, referring to Google Classroom for the formal assignments.
Day 1
Artist Video & gallery
For the first day of our artist week, students will be looking a a prepared Artist Video and collection of the artist's works within the Artist's Gallery. Refer to Google Classroom for the formal assignment and Google Form to be completed for daily credit.
Day 2
artist biography & quiz
Now that students have been formally introduced to Jae Yong Kim today they will be continuing their exploration of the artist, working on learning more facts about the artist's life by reading a provided biography, then taking a quiz on the given information. This will be counted as a summative score BUT is an open notes assignment, meaning students can have the article/reading assignment open while completing the quiz. Again, please refer to Google Classroom for the formal assignment and Google Form to be completed for daily credit.
Day 3
Art analysis
Today you are going to be analyzing a selected artwork by artist Jae Yong Kim in an Art Analysis. Simply answer the provided questions using full sentences and being thoughtful with your responses. Single word responses will not be counted. As long as you do this, you will get full credit for this assignment.

Day 4 & 5
Donuts Art project
After learning about artist Jae Yong Kim in depth, students will now create an artwork inspired by him. Using complex patterns, imagery, and colors such as those found within Kim's artwork, students will create a personalized set of donuts! Featuring 6 different donuts, each is required to be different and uniquely designed. Students may be inspired by Kim's artwork directly or select a more personalized theme, coloring the entire donut fully and adding a dimensional cast shadow to each one, finishing off the design.
Materials needed: blank paper, pencil/eraser, black sharpie marker, assorted colorful markers and colored pencils.
